Did you know... Cows need to give birth to produce milk. Cows are mothers too. A cow’s gestation period is 9 months, just like a human. Cows are forcibly impregnated every 12 months for milk production. Multiple births to produce milk for human consumption leads to infections like mastitis and reproductive cancer.

And the cows don’t live a happy life. They are treated like machines. They are chained up, have their babies taken away, and are killed when their bodies can no longer produce enough milk. Keep scrolling to learn the truth

You can’t have dairy without death Where am I going? 15 million make dairy calves are killed globally each year. Male dairy calves are considered worthless in the industry are killed outright or sold for slaughter. Cows raised to be used for milk will be killed for meat once considered spent between 4 and 6 years old. A cow can live up to 20 years old. They don’t get to reture, or live out their full lives as they deserve.

Dairy is bad for the planet Per the U.N., if cows were a country, they would rank third in greenhouse gas emissions after China and the U.S. 80% of land deforestation is to clear land for crops for farmed animals and grazing. Animal agriculture is responsible for 91% of Amazonian deforestation. Meat and dairy use 1/3 of the entire planet’s fresh water. 144 gallons of water is used to produce 1 gallon of milk in the U.S. more than 93% of that water is used to grow feed for dairy cow

What you can do? Stop consuming dairy. There is no ethical way to do so, no matter the size of the farm. Remember that even on small, local “humane” farms, this is all happening. Support dairy-free brands like Miyoko’s, Ripple, and Oatly. Support nonprofit organizations like Woodstock Farm Sanctuary that rescue cows from the dairy industry. In January 2020, they rescued a seven year old cow named Jo, who birthed 5 babies and did not get to know any of them.
